About Sobriety Anniversaries
In Alcoholics Anonymous, a sobriety anniversary — sometimes called a "sobriety birthday" or "AA birthday" — marks the date a member first achieved sobriety. These milestones are celebrated within the fellowship as a reminder of the progress made and the strength found through the AA program.
Anniversaries are typically acknowledged at meetings with a chip or medallion. Common milestone chips include 24 hours, 30 days, 60 days, 90 days, 6 months, 9 months, and 1 year, followed by yearly chips thereafter.
